YESTERDAY'S CHILD 1977 78 min. Shirley Jones, Ross Martin, Claude Akins, Geraldine Fitzgerald, Stephanie Zimbalist, Patrick Wayne. Directed by Corey Allen, Bob Rosenbaum. A wealthy family is stunned when a teen-aged girl turns up claiming to be their child kidnapped 14 years earlier. Melodramatic nonsense adapted from Doris Miles Disney's fine mystery novel NIGHT OF CLEAR CHOICE. And two directors were needed to put this one together! Below average. YOU CAN'T GO HOME AGAIN 1979 100 min. Lee Grant, Chris Sarandon, Hurd Hatfield, Tammy Grimes, Roland Winter, Malachy McCourt. Directed by Ralph Nelson. A mediocre adaptation of the Thomas Wolfe classic about the struggles of a young writer in the 20s and the affair he has with an older married woman. Average. YOU LIE SO DEEP, MY LOVE 1975 78 min. Don Galloway, Barbara Anderson, Angel Tompkins, Walter Pidgeon, Anne Schedeen, Russel Johnson. Directed by David Lowell Rich. A wealthy woman tries to save her failing marriage while her philandering husband is willing to murder her to get out of it (with her money). Standard drama packed with unpleasant characters. Below average. YOU'LL NEVER SEE ME AGAIN 1973 73 min. David Hartman, Joseph Campanella, Jane Wyatt, Ralph Meeker, Jess Walton, Colby Chester, Bill Zuckert. Directed by Jeannot Szwarc. A husband follows to his in-laws' house, discovers his wife never arrived, and is eventually arrested by the police. Straightforward suspense film (from a Cornell Woolrich story) with a few novel ingredients, adequate performances, predictable resolution. Average. THE YOUNG COUNTRY 1970 73 min. Roger Davis, Joan Hackett, Walter Brennan, Wally Cox, Skip Young, Pete Duel. Directed by Roy Huggins. Offbeat casting in a comedy Western about likable gambler Moody (Davis) hard pressed to track down the money once belonging to a mysterious gunman (Cox). Granted the film's unconvincing transitions, the characters are given decent dialogue and the resolution is actually acceptable. Above average. YOUNG JOE, THE FORGOTTEN KENNEDY 1977 97 min. Peter Strauss, Barbara Parkins, Stephen Elliott, Darleen Carr, Simon Oakland, Lance Kerwin. Directed by Richard T. Heffron. Strauss gives a sincere performance in a tear-stained drama that strives to fulfill the public's never-ending fascination with the legendary Kennedy family. Average. THE YOUNG LAWYERS 1969 75 min. Jason Evers, Judy Pace, Zalman King, Tom Fielding, Anjanette Comer, Keenan Wynn, James Shigeta, Richard Pryor. Directed by Harvey Hart. Three law students, working for a famous Boston attorney who gave up practice to direct a neighborhood law office, defend two musicians charged with robbing and beating a cab driver. Extensive location work and a script which tackles legal problems squarely are the film's major assets, but watch out for the resolution. Pilot for the series. Above average. YOUNG PIONEERS 1976 100 min. Roger Kern, Linda Purl, Robert Hays, Shelly Juttner, Robert Donner, Frank Marth. Directed by Michael O'Herlihy. The homesteading adventures of newlyweds in the Dakota wilderness of the 1870s. An uncluttered, occasionally interesting family-style Western. Average. YOUNG PIONEERS' CHRISTMAS 1976 100 min. Roger Kern, Linda Purl, Robert Hays, Kay Kimler, Robert Donner, Brett Leach. Directed by Michael O'Herlihy. The further adventures of those pioneering young folks an a poignant sequel to YOUNG PIONEERS. More of the same -- with tinsel added. A short-lived series followed. Average. YOUR MONEY OR YOUR WIFE 1972 73 min. Ted Bessell, Elizabeth Ashely, Jack Cassidy, Betsy von Furstenberg. Directed by Allen Reisner. Good premise gone awry in a novel-based story of two scriptwriters cooking up an imaginary kidnap plot, then putting it to work. Unconvincing character development, sloppy direction, passable performances. Script by JP Miller. Average. YOUR PLACE OR MINE 1983 100 min. Bonnie Franklin, Robert Klein, Peter Bonerz, Tyne Daly, Penny Fuller. Directed by Robert Day. A warmhearted but typical romantic comedy about a couple of mature "singles" and the problems their best friends have in getting them together. Average. YUMA 1970 73 min. Clint Walker, Barry Sullivan, Edgar Buchanan, Kathryn Hays, Peter Mark Richman, Morgan Woodward. Directed by Ted Post. A marshal of frontier town center of a plot to discredit him, stalked by the brother of a prisoner, must unravel the chain of events to unmask the plan's creator. This old-fashioned Western lacks a script with punch, but fair direction and an actionful resolution make up for the lulls. Average. |
