A man sets out to avenge the murder of a friend, winds up at the New Orleans Mardi Gras where he meets a young woman.
Culp and Miles stand out in an otherwise OK cast but the film overall seems insignificant. Remake of RIDE THE PINK HORSE.

HANGING BY A THREAD
1979
200 min.
Sam Groom, Patty Duke Astin, Burt Convy, Burr DeBenning, Donna Mills, Cameron Mitchell. Directed by Goerg Fenady.

HAPPILY EVER AFTER
1978
100 min.
Suzanne Somers, Bruce Boxleitner, Eric Braeden, John Rubinstein, Ron Hayes. Directed by Robert Scheerer.
In her first starring role, Suzanne is an aspiring singer torn between hitting it big in Las Vegas or running off with

HAPPY
1983
100 min.
Dom Deluise, Dee Wallace, Henry Silva, Jack Gilford, Tony Burton, Bill Morey, David Deluise, Carol Arthur Deluise.
Directed by Lee Philips.
Rotund Dom goes dramatic as a down-on-his-luck TV clown who gets involved in a gangland rubout and tracks the gunman
himself when the cops bungle the case. Average.

HAPPY ENDINGS
1983
100 min.
Lee Montgomery, Jill Schoelen, Sarah Nevin, Robbie Kiger, Oliver Clark, Robin Gammel. Carol Mayo Jenkins. Directed by
Jerry Thorpe.
An eighteen-year-old college dropout struggles to keep the family together after his parents' deaths. Writer/producer
Christopher Beaumont (one of the guiding hands behind TV's FAME) based this on his own experience. Heartwarming but
predictable television fare. Average.

HAPPY ENDINGS
1983
96 min.
John Schneider, Catherine Hicks, Ana Alicia, Joseph Hacker III, Bibi Osterwald, Matthew Faison, Murphy Cross. Directed
Noel Black.
Pleasant but perfunctory romantic comedy about a twosome, rebounding from broken love affairs, who meet and go for the
currently "in" Meaningful Relationship. Average.

HARD KNOX
1984
100 min.
Robert Conrad, Red West, Bill Erwin, Shane Conrad, Dean Hill, Dianne B. Shaw, Joan Sweeny. Directed by Peter Werner.
Conrad, a career Marine flyer, has the unhappy choice of a desk job, or the leadership of a military school running
amok with young misfits. Obviously, a series pilot. Average.

HARDCASE
1971
74 min.
Clint Walker, Stefanie Powers, Pedro Armendariz, Jr., Alex Karras, Luis Mirando. Directed by John Llewellyn Moxey.
Interesting period Western featuring Walker as a soldier of fortune who joins up with Mexican revolutionaries,
discovers his wife amongst them. Dialogue not bad, situations sometimes believable. Otherwise, the pace of the film is
too rushed. Average.

HARDHAT AND LEGS
1980
105 min.
Kevin Dobson, Sharon Gless, Bobby Short, Jacqueline Brookes, Ray Serra, W.T. Martin. Directed by Lee Phillips.
Engaging comedy-drama written by Garson Kanin and Ruth Gordon that tosses together a girl-watching construction worker
and a beauty who happens to teach sex education. Well cast, delightfully acted. Above average.

100 min.
Bob Denver, Alan Hale, Jr., Russell Johnson, Dawn Wells, Connie Forshund, Jim Backus, Natalie Schafer, Scatman
Crothers, Martin Landau, Barbara Bain, The Harlem Globetrotters. Directed by Peter Baldwin.
In the third year of their "comeback" movies years after the original series was relegated to the great boob tube in
the sky, Gilligan and the gang are visited by the Globetrotters, a mad scientist and his assistant, and a squad of
basketball-playing robots. Below average.

THE HARNESS
1971
100 min.
Lorne Greene, Julie Sommars, Murray Hamilton, Louise latham, Lee Harcourt Montgomery, Henry Beckman, Joan Tompkins,
Robert Karnes. Directed by Boris Sagal.
A fairly strong, Steinbeck-based love story: Greene as a middle-aged widower, Sommars as a young woman. Good location
filming, believable script. Above average.

HAROLD ROBBINS' THE PIRATE
1978
200 min.
Franco Nero, Anne Archer, Olivia Hussey, Ian McShane, Christopher Lee, James Franciscus, Eli Wallach, Stuart Whitman.
Directed by Ken Annakin.
Expensively mounted and deliciously lurid romantic pap in the best Robbins tradition, set against a backdrop of
Arab-Israeli intrigue, with Nero playing a tempestuous Jewish-born, Arab-raised oil sheik with a frosty American wife
and a daughter who grows up to become a PLO fanatic. Tedious and predictable. Script by Julius J. Epstein. Average.
Also known as THE PIRATE. Later cut to 150 min.

HARPY
1970
100 min.
Hugh O'Brian, Elizabeth Ashley, Tom Nardini, Marlyn Mason, Mark Miller. Directed by Seth Sindell.
Extremely odd (and near brilliant) combination of character study and horror show, most of it occurring at an
architect's home involving his ex-wife, ranch assistant, and the architect himself. Formula bloody ending, in
mysterious tale of passion, actually works. Above average.

HART TO HART
1979
100 min.
Robert Wagner, Stefanie Powers, Lionel Stander, Roddy McDowall, Jill St. John, Stella Stevens, Eugene Roche, Clifton
James. Directed by Tom Mankiewicz.
Wagner and Powers play jet-setters who, in true Nick and Nora Charles fashion, dabble in detective work to solve the
mysterious death of a close friend at a glamorous health spa. Pilot for the hit series also offers a gag walk-on by
Natalie Wood, billed in the closing credits with her real name, Natasha Gurdin. Average.

THE HATFIELDS AND THE McCOYS
1975
74 min.
Jack Palance, Steve Forrest, Richard Hatch, Karen Lamm, James Keach, Joan Caulfield. Directed by Clyde Ware.
Drama about the petty thievery and the ill-starred love that changed sporadic violence into the legendary feud of the
1880s. Palance and Forrest are the patriarchs of the opposing clans. Average.

THE HAUNTING PASSION
1983
100 min.
Jane Seymour, Gerald McRaney, Millie Perkins, Ruth Nelson, Paul Rossilli, Ivan Bonar. Directed by John Korty.
Surprisingly effective and rather erotic thriller, written by Michael Berk and Douglas Schwartz, about a woman desired
by two men -- her new husband and the ghost of her dead lover. Seductive Seymour is smashing. Above average.

HAUNTS OF THE VERY RICH
1972
72 min.
Lloyd Bridges, Cloris Leachman, Edward Asner, Anne Francis, Tony Bill, Donna Mills, Robert Reed, Moses Gunn. Directed
by Paul Wendkos.
A mixed up reworking of the NO EXIT premise. Seven vacationers agree to be flown to tropical paradise, even though they
aren't told exactly where they are. Offbeat location work is the only asset in an otherwise plainly acted, unimaginatively
scripted allegory. Forget about the ending. Average.

HAUSER'S MEMORY
1970
100 min.
Robert Webber, Susan Strasberg, David McCallum, Leslie Nielsen, Lilli Palmer. Directed by Boris Sagal.
Psychological thriller based on a Curt Siodmak story; scientist McCallum injects himself with another man's brain

Mullavey, Linda Purl, Jan Sterling, Karen Valentine, Abe Vigoda, Jessica Walter. Directed by Robert Day.
Drama interweaving the stories of four couples as they experience childbirth by the "natural" Lamaze method. Topical
subject, familiar TV faces, dumb dialogue. Followed by two sequels and then a weekly series. Average.

HAVING BABIES II
1977
100 min.
Tony Bill, Cliff Gorman, Carol Lynley, Paula Prentiss, Wayne Rogers, Nicholas Pryor, Lee Meriwether. Directed by
Richard Michaels.
Another dose of emotional crises involving birth, adoption and first love affecting the lives of several couples. The
usual multi-character suds capped by the actual birth of twins. Average.

HAVING BABIES III
1978
100 min.
Susan Sullivan, Dennis Howard, Beverly Todd, Mitchell Ryan, Patty Duke Astin, Jamie Jackson Smith, Phil Foster.
Directed by Jackie Cooper.
Third trip to the delivery room before the series that quickly was renamed JULIE FARR, M.D. (for Sullivan's character)
and tried in several formats over subsequent seasons. The movie gave Astin another of her many Emmy nominations.
Average.

HAVING IT ALL
1982
100 min.
Dyan Cannon, Barry Newman, Hart Bochner, Melanie Chartoff, Sylvia Sidney. Directed by Edward Zwick.
Bicoastal woman has two husbands -- one in N.Y.C., the other in L.A. -- in this change-of-sex update of Alec Guinness's
wry THE CAPTAIN'S PARADISE. Below average.

HAWAII FIVE-O
1968
100 min.
Jack Lord, Nancy Kwan, Leslie Nielsen, Andrew Duggan, Lew Ayres, James Gregory. Directed by Leonard Freeman.
Supposedly realistic depiction of a high-tension police force headed by taskmaster McGarrett (Lord) trying to uncover a
deadly Chinese weapon hidden aboard a tramp steamer. Pilot for TV series; average.

HAWKINS ON MURDER
1973
74 min.
James Stewart, Bonnie Bedelia, Margaret Markov, Strother Martin, Kate Reid, David Huddleston, Antionete Bower, Robert
Webber, Charles MacGraw. Directed by Jud Taylor.
Pilot for Stewart's TV series surrounds the likable star with a good cast in an OK mystery/courtroom drama by David
Karp about an heiress accused in a triple murder. Some scenes shot at the lavish Harold Lloyd estate. Above average.
Retitled DEATH AND THE MAIDEN.

HAYWIRE
1980
200 min.
Lee Remick, Jason Robards, Deborah Raffin, Dianne Hull, Hart Bochner, Linda Gray, Dean Jagger, Richard Johnson.
Directed by Michael Tuchner.
Provocative drama based on Brooke Hayward's best-seller about growing up in a celebrated but ill-fated family in which
glamor and good times met head-on with tragedy. Remick is actress Margaret Sullavan, and Robards is her husband, famous
show-business agent/producer Leland Hayward. Brooke's brother William Hayward (sensitively played here by Bochner)
produced the movie. Above average.

THE HEALERS
1974
100 min.
John Forsythe, Kate Woodville, Season Hubley, Pat Harrington, Anthony Zerbe, Beverly Garland, John McIntire. Directed
by Tom Gries.
Hospital drama with the harassed director of a medical center (Forsythe) at the core. Performances are adequate, the
plot written to formula. Another busted pilot. Average.

HEAR NO EVIL
1982
100 min.
Gil Gerard, Bernie Casey, Wings Hauser, Mimi Rogers, Christina Hart, Brion James, Ron Karabatsos. Directed by Harry
Falk.
An ex-cop left stone deaf by a bike gang he'd been trying to nail on drugs, goes after the baddies on his own, with the
help of his one-tme partner, a therapist, and a "hearing ear" dog. Pilot to a prospective series. Average.

HEART OF STEEL
1983
100 min.
Peter Strauss, Pamela Reed, John Doucette, Barry Primus. Directed by Donald Wrye.
Strauss gives another top-notch performance as a laid-off steelworker striving to put food on the family table as the
American dream crumbles. Fine script by his producing partner, Gary DeVore, goes right to the core of a contemporary
social issue. Above average.

HEAT OF ANGER
1971
74 min.
Susan Hayward, James Stacy, Lee J. Cobb, Fritz Weaver, Bettye Ackerman, Tyne Daly. Directed by Don Taylor.
Familiar blend of courtroom stereotypes in a story of an assured lady attorney teaming up with a young lawyer in
defense of an accused murderer (with a construction site as the crime's setting). Good cast cannot redeem a script by
the usually superior Fay Kanin. Average.

HEAT WAVE!
1974
78 min.
Ben Murphy, Bonnie Bedalia, Lew Ayres, David Huddleston, John Anderson, Robert Hogan, Dana Elcar. Directed by Jerry
Jameson.
A young clerk and his pregnant wife struggle to escape from a catastrophic heat wave. The cast sweats this one out in
standard style. Average.

HEIDI
1968
110 min.
Maximilian Schell, Jean Simmons, Michael Redgrave, Walter Slezak, Jennifer Edwards, Peter Van Eyck. Directed by Delbert
Mann.
Well-made version of the classic story, with Edwards (daughter of Blake Edwards) leading a good cast. Script by Earl
Hamner, Jr. of THE WALTONS fame. Above average.

THE HEIST
1972
73 min.
Christopher George, Elizabeth Ashley, Howard Duff, Norman Fell, Michael Bell, Robert Mandan. Directed by Don McDougall.
A tough cop (Duff) is convinced an armored car guard (George) engineered a bank robbery via a clever alibi, even though
film clearly shows the man is innocent. Predictable resolution, fair performances, and a closing sequence that must be
seen to be believed. Average.

98 min.
Telly Savalas, Melinda Dillon, Rod Taylor, James Sutorius, Morgan Stevens, Ja'net DuBois, Roy Poole, Tom McFadden, Kyle
Richards. Directed by Leo Penn.

prospective Savalas series. Average.

A career woman hires a sportswriter to help her become a mother after finding that her boyfriend isn't up to it. Max
Shulman wrote this sniggering romantic comedy. Average.

THE HENDERSON MONSTER
1980
105 min.
Jason Miller, Christine Lahti, Stephen Collins, David Spielberg. Nehemiah Persoff, Larry Gates. Directed by Waris
Hussein.
Miller is an egotistical Nobel Prize-winning scientist in this static gene-splicing drama that dissolves into romantic-
triangle pap. Script by Ernest Kinoy. Average.

HER LIFE AS A MAN 1984 100 min. Robyn Douglass, Robert Culp, Marc Singer, Laraine Newman, Joan Collins, Miriam Flynn. Directed by Robert Ellis Miller. A female reporter lands a job as a sportswriter by disguising herself as a man in this light-hearted addition to the drag genre popularized by TOOTSIE and VICTOR/VICTORIA. Douglass makes a pretty good-looking guy in this Joanna Crawford adaptation of Carol Lynn Mithers' based-on-a-true-story VILLAGE VOICE article. Average. HEY, I'M ALIVE! 1975 78 min. Edward Asner, Sally Struthers, Milton Selzer, Hagan Beggs, Mria Hernandez, Claudine Melgrave. Directed by Lawrence Schiller. Fact-based drama about two plane crash survivors who spent 49 days in the Yukon wilderness subsisting on melted snow while awaiting rescue. Good work by Asner and Struthers. Average. HIGH ICE 1980 97 min. David Janssen, Tony Musante, Madge Sinclair, Dorian Harewood, Warren Stevens, Gretchen Corbett, Allison Argo, James G. Richardson. Directed by Eugene S. Jones. Dandy thriller about the rescue of three weekend climbers from a tiny mountainside ledge, pitting gruff veteran ranger Janssen against by-the-book army colonel Musante. Above average. HIGH MIDNIGHT 1979 100 min. Mike Connors, David Birney, Christine Belford, Granville Van Dusen, George DiCenzo. Directed by Daniel Haller. Blue collar worker Birney seeks revenge for the murder of his family in a mistaken no-knock drug raid and stalks Connors, head of the narcotics squad responsible. Average. HIGH NOON, PART II: THE RETURN OF WILL KANE 1980 100 min. Lee Majors, David Crradine, J.A. Preston, Pernell Roberts, M. Emmet Walsh, Katherine Cannon, Michael Pataki. Directed by Jerry Jameson. Majors takes the role of Will Kane here, which picks up where the Gary Cooper movie left off. In this long-delayed (and seemingly unneccessary) sequel, he has to strap on his guns again to face down the bounty-hunting marshall who replaced him. Average. HIGH SCHOOL U.S.A. 1983 100 min. Michael J. Fox, Nancy McKeon, Todd Bridges, Lauri Hendler, Dana Plato, Bob Denver, Tony Dow, Angela Cartwright, Dwayne Hickman, Elinor Donahue, David Nelson. Directed by Rod Amateau. Mediocre sitcom abut the class(room) wars showcasing a cast load of contemporary young TV faces along with television child stars of the previous generation. Average. HIJACK 1973 73 min. David Janssen, Keenan Wynn, Ronald Feinberg, Lee Purcell, Jeanette Nolan, William Schallert. Directed by Leonard Horn. Two truckdrivers, unaware of the nature of their cargo, are menaced by criminals not afraid of going all the way for possession of government secret material. Janssen and Wynn work well together, but the script is full of implausible situations and resolution. Average. HITCHED 1971 73 min. Tim Matheson, Sally Field, Neville Brand, Kathleen Freeman, Don Knight, Slim Pickens, Denver Pyle. Directed by Boris Sagal. Lame, predictable Western with comedy undertones featuring two newlyweds thwarting a half-hearted crooked deal. Sequel to LOCK, STOCK AND BARRELL. Below average. HITCHHIKE! 1974 78 min. Cloris Leachman, Michael Brandon, Henry Darrow, Cameron Mitchell, John Elerick, Linden Chiles. Directed by Gordon Hessler. A lonely middle-aged vacationer is unaware that the young hitchhiker she has picked up just killed his stepmother. Below average. HIT LADY 1974 78 min. Yvette Mimieux, Joseph Campanella, Clu Galager, Dack Rambo, Keenan Wynn. Directed by Tracy Keenan Wynn. 78 min. Versatile Yvette Mimieux wrote and starred in this poker-faced drama about a woman who loves... and kills. Strangely enough, this works. One question: was it Miss Mimieux's idea to constantly appear in a bikini? HOBSON'S CHOICE Richard Thomas, Sharon Gless, Jack Warden, Lillian Gish, Bert Remsen. Directed by Gilbert Cates. Colorful but miscast period piece about a stubborn shoestore owner whose free-spirited daughter rebels by marrying one of his employees. Despite the resetting of multi-hued New Orleans of 1914 and the brief presence of delightful Lillian Gish as a spunky customer, the choice here is David Lean's 1954 version. Average. HOLD THE DREAM 1986 195 min. Deborah Kerr, Jenny Seagrove, Stephen Collins, James Brolin, Claire Bloom, Paul Daneman, Fiona Fullerton, Nigel Havers, Liam Neeson, Suzanna Hamilton, Pauline Yates. Directed by Don Sharp. This sequel to its more substantial predecessor, A WOMAN OF SUBSTANCE, barely cuts the mustard dramatically. Here Emma Hart's granddaughter tries to uphold Grandma's dreams while suffering through 'les affaires du coeur' and backstabbing business deals. A mildly enjoyable soap further hampered by poor acting from the male leads. Average. HOLLOW IMAGE 1979 100 min. Robert Hooks, Saundra Sharp, Dick Anthony Williams, Hattie Winston, Morgan Freeman. Directed by Marvin J. Chomsky. A black career girl is torn between her chic new life in the world of fashion and her roots in Harlem with an old beau. Occasionally pretentious black awareness movie with standout performances by Williams and Freeman. A winner for first-time dramatist Lee Hunkins. Above average. HOLOCAUST: THE STORY OF THE FAMILY WEISS 1978 475 min. Fritz Weaver, Rosemary Harris, Meryl Streep, James Woods, David Warner, Michael Moriarity, Tovah Feldshuh, Joseph Bottoms, Blanch Baker. Direced by Marvin Chomsky. A shattering docudrama about the mass extermination of the Jews under the Nazi regime, this film attains maximum impact by following the fortunes of one particular family -- a cultured professor, his wife, and their children. Wisely, the expert script unfolds its horrors only after we've come to know and respect his family. Skillfully conceived and written by Gerald Green, this TV series had a worldwide impact. When shown on German TV, it received enormous ratings and resulted in a greatly increased study of the Holocaust by German students. Above average. HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS 1972 74 min. Eleanor Parker, Sally Field, Jessica Walter, Julie Harris, Jill Haworth, Walter Brennan. Directed by John Llewellyn Moxey. Four daughters protect aging, vulnerable Brennan from a homicidal maniac during a Christmas reunion. Not bad, but you've seen it all before. Average. HOME TO STAY 1978 74 min. Henry Fonda, Michael McGuire, Frances Hyland, David Stambaugh, Kirsten Virgard. Directed by Delbert Mann. Sentimental tale of a teenager and the trip she takes with her spirited grandfather to keep him from being sent to a home for the aged. Fonda, as usual, is dignity personified in this Canadian-filmed story taken from Janet Majerus' GRANDPA AND FRANK. Above average. HOMEWARD BOUND 1980 100 min. David Soul, Moosie Drier, Barnard Hughes, Judith Penrod, Jeff Corey, Carmen Zapata. Directed by Richard Michaels. Drama involving a divorced man, his long-estranged father, and his incurably ill teenaged son during one special summer at the grandfather's vineyard. Written by Burt Prelutsky, it has an especially touching performance by Hughes. Fred Karlin's score won an Emmy nomination. Above average. HONEYBOY 1982 100 min. Erik Estrada, Morgan Fairchild, James McEachin, Robert Costanza, Yvonne Wilder, Phillip R. Allen, Robert Alan Browne, Hector Elizondo. Directed by John Berry. A rehash of every cliched fight movie Hollywood ever made, with Estrada trying to box his way out of the barrio to overnight fame and fortune. Average. HONEYMOON WITH A STRANGER 1969 74 min. Janet Leigh, Rossano Brazzi, Joseph Lenzi, Cesare Danova, Barbara Steele, Eric Braeden. Directed by John Peyser. After a blissful wedding night, an American newlywed discovers her husband is missing and a strange man claiming to be the genuine article. Routine story enhanced by location filming in Spain. Average. HONKY TONK 1974 90 min. Richard Crenna, Stella Stevens, Margo Kidder, Will Geer, John Dehner, Geoffrey Lewis, Gregory Sierra. Directed by Don Taylor. Pleasant remake of the Gable-Turner vehicle with a smooth cast enacting a con man/respectable lady/dance-hall girl triangle. Average. HONOR THY FATHER 1971 100 min. Joseph Bologna, Raf Vallone, Brenda Vaccaro, Richard Castellano, Joe De Santis, Gilbert Green, Marc Lawrence. Directed by Paul Wendkos. Extraordinary slice-of-life presentation of the day-to-day operations of an organized crime family, written (primarily) around the Bill Bonanno character. Adapted from Gay Talese's book by Lewis John Carlino. Within TV restrictions, not bad. Above average. THE HOSTAGE HEART 1977 100 min. Bradford Dillman, Loretta Swit, Vic Morrow, Cameron Mitchell, Belinda J. Montgomery, Sharon cker, George DiCenzo, Paul Shearer, Carl Weathers. Directed by Bernard McEveety. Terrorists break into a hospital operating room and hold a billionaidre, undergoing a heart operation, for millions in ransom. A familiar premise given an interesting twist, but the characters are stereotyped. Average. THE HOSTAGE TOWER 1980 105 min. Peter Fonda, Billy Dee Williams, Keir Dullea, Douglas Fairbanks, Jr. Rachel Roberts, Celia Johnson, Maud Adams, Britt Ekland. Directed by Claudio Guzman. Alistair MacLean's adventure thriller (his first written for television) has a flamboyant criminal masterminding the capture of the Eiffel Tower and the holding of the U.S. President's visiting mother for a $30 million ransom. The fast pacing fails to mask the silliness of it all. Average. HOT ROD 1979 100 min. Gregg Henry, Robert Culp, Pernell Roberts, Robin Mattson, Grant Goodeve. Directed by George Armitage. Local dragstrip championship pits a free-wheeling outsider against the son of the town boss who has the race fixed. Lots of revving engines and screeching tires drown out the dumb dialogue. Also known as REBEL OF THE ROAD. Average. HOTLINE 1982 96 min. Lynda Carter, Steve Forrest, Granville Van Dusen, Monte Markham, James Booth, Harry Waters, Jr. Directed by Jerry Jameson. Carter takes a job answering phones at a crisis center and finds herself stalked by an unknown psychotic caller. Average. THE HOUND OF THE BASKERVILLES 1972 Stewart Granger, William Shatner, Bernard Fox, John Williams, Anthony Zerbe, Jane Merrow. Directed by Barry Crane. Ludicrous remake of the Conan Doyle spellbinder with casting the least of its problems. Nuance, tension, situation all made trivial by the script, pacing and production values. For masochists only. Below average. THE HOUSE ON GREENAPPLE ROAD 1970 113 min. Christopher George, Janet Leigh, Julie Harris, Tim O'Connor, Walter Pidgeon, Barry Sullivan. Directed by Robert Day. Entertaining police mystery set in a suburban California town, supposedly illustrating average town police practices and state government politics. Mild-mannered husband (O'Connor) fears for the life of his promiscuous wife (Leigh). Too confused for its own good by the halfway mark. Average; the pilot for the DAN AUGUST TV series. THE HOUSE POSSESSED 1981 100 min. Parker Stevenson, Lisa Eilbacher, Joan Bennett, Slim Pickens, Shelley Smith, K. Callan. Directed by William Wiard. A rock star has a nervous breakdown and seeks solitude in a secluded house with his young nubile nurse. Veteran star Joan Bennett gives some distinction to this pedestrian haunted-house chiller as an old rag-lady who seems to know its horrifying secret. Average. THE HOUSE THAT WOULD NOT DIE 1970 72 min. Barbara Stanwyck, Michael Anderson, Jr., Doreen Lang, Richard Egan, Katherine Winn, Mabel Albertson. Directed by John Llewellyn Moxey. Thriller built around a Revolutionary era haunted house. With a longer running time, the Harry Farrell-scripted story could've been great. One or two unusual situations, otherwise average. HOUSTON, WE'VE GOT A PROBLEM 1974 78 min. Robert Culp, Clu Galager, Sandra Dee, Gary Collins, Ed Nelson, Sheila Sullivan, Steve Franken. Directed by Lawrence Doheny. Fictionalized account of the ill-fated Apollo 13 and the traumatic effect the spacecraft explosion has on the flight controllers. No-nonsense performances mesh with real-life tragedy. Average. HOW I SPENT MY SUMMER VACATION 1967 100 min. Robert Wagner, Lola Albright, Peter Lawford, Walter Pidgeon, Jill St. John. Directed by William Hale. This odd suspenser follows Wagner as he becomes unaccountably interested in the events leading up to the death of millionaire Lawford. Good performances and locations suffer from a muddy script. Below average. HOW TO BREAK UP A HAPPY DIVORCE 1976 72 min. Barbara Eden, Hal Linden, Marcia Rodd, Peter Bonerz, Harold Gould. Directed by Jerry Paris. A woman tries to make her ex-husband jealous in order to win him back. Smells like a failed pilot with TV semistars. Below average. HOW TO PICK UP GIRLS! 1978 100 min. Desi Arnaz, Jr., Bess Armstrong, Fred McCarren, Polly Bergen, Richard Dawson, Alan King, Abe Vigoda, Deborah Raffin. Directed by Bill Persky. A naive small towner (McCarren) comes to the Big Apple and stumbles onto the secret of successful girl-chasing to the dismay of his sophisticated buddy (Arnaz) from back home, now a full-time swinger. Amiable sitcom treatment of Eric Weber's funny book. Average. HOW TO STEAL AN AIRPLANE 1971 100 min. Peter Duel, Clinton Greyn, Sal Mineo, Katherine Crawford, Claudine Longet. Directed by Leslie Martinson. Good combination of action and laughs as an American and a Welshman plan to get back at the playboy son of a Latin dictator. Offbeat casting, script, filmed in 1968. Average. Retitled: ONLY ONE DAY LEFT BEFORE TOMORROW. A HOWLING IN THE WOODS 1971 100 min. Barbara Eden, John Rubenstein, Vera Miles, Larry Hagman, Tyne Daly, Ford Rainey, Ruta Lee. Directed by Daniel Petrie. A complicated double conspiracy is the only revelation in this thriller involving a disillusioned wife vacationing with relatives at a Lake Tahoe lodge, and the husband not far behind. Average. HUCKLEBERRY FINN 1975 78 min. Ron Howard, Donny Most, Antonio Fargas, Jack Elam, Merle Haggard, Royal Dano, Rance Howard, Clint Howard. Directed by Robert Totten. Folksy treatment of the classic by Twain (played by Dano), minus the social criticism and sinister aspects of the literary adventure favorite. Above average. THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME 1982 150 min. Anthony Hopkins, Derek Jacobi, Lesley-Anne Down, Robert Powell, John Gielgud, David Suchet, Gerry Sundquist, Tim Pigott-Smith, Alan Webb, Roland Culver. Directed by Michael Tuchner. A rousing new production of the Victor Hugo classic, adapted by John Gay. Highlighted by Hopkins's carefully shaded portrait of Quasimodo and production designer John Stoll's carefully detailed replica of Paris's Notre Dame Cathedral, built on the backlot of Pinewood Studios outside London. Above average. THE HUNTED LADY 1977 100 min. Donna Mills, Robert Reed, Lawrence Casey, Andrew Duggan, Will Sampson, Alan Feinstein. Directed by Richard Lang. An undercover police woman flees for her life after being framed by mobsters. Predictable pilot movie melding elements from THE FUGITIVE and POLICE WOMAN. Average. HUNTER 1971 73 min. John Vernon, Steve Ihnat, Fritz Weaver, Edward Binns, Sabrina Scharf, Barbara Rhodes. Directed by Leonard Horn. An enemy brainwash scheme is uncovered when a government agent survives a racetrack crackup. But for what purpose? The sloppy, mechanical pace ruins the good premise. Average. HUNTERS ARE FOR KILLING 1970 100 min. Michael Parks, Mary Louise Weller, William Windon, Felton Perry, Steve Macht, Katy Kurtzman. Directed by Alex Singer. Rival salvage crews vie for sunken treasure in shark infested waters. Busted pilot using a concept and characters created by Peter (JAWS) Benchley is predictable action adventure. Average. HUNTERS OF THE REEF 1978 100 min. Michael Parks, Mary Louise Weller, William Windom, Felton Perry, Steve Macht, Katy Kurtzman. Directed by Alex Singer. Rival salvage crews vie for sunken treasure in shark infested waters. A busted pilot using a concept and characters created by Peter (JAWS) Benchley is predictable action adventure. Average. HURRICANE 1974 78 min. Larry Hagman, Martin Milner, Jessica Walter, Barry Sullivan, Will Geer, Frank Sutton, Michael Learned, Lonny Chapman. Directed Jerry Jameson. Vivid hurricane footage easily outshines a GRAND HOTEL-like collection of stereotyped characters trapped in a disaster area. Below average. THE HUSTLER OF MUSCLE BEACH 1980 97 min. Richard Hatch, Kay Lenz, Veronica Hamel, Jeannette Nolan, Joe Santos, Bobby Van, Kenneth McMillan, Jack Carter. Directed by Jonathan Kaplan. A N.Y.C. hustler heads west and gets involved in the unique world of bodybuilders and iron pumpers. Average. HUSTLING 1975 100 min. Lee Remick, Jill Clayburgh, Monte Markham, Alex Rocco, Dick O'Neill, Burt Young, Melanie Mayron. Directed by Joseph Sargent. Searing drama by Fay Kanin about the prostitution racket, well-acted by Remick as an investigative reporter (a la Gail Sheehy, who wrote the book on which this was based) and Clayburgh, giving a gritty portrayal of a hooker.
